Maintaining Water Features Across a Championship Golf Course

Golf course lakes are more than water hazards. They frame fairways, create strategic challenges, provide wildlife habitat, and contribute to the overall experience for members and guests.

Since 2001, Gulf Coast Aquatics has provided monthly lake management services for a private golf and country club in Sarasota County, Florida. Our team maintains two golf course lakes through aquatic vegetation control, algae management, shoreline maintenance, and routine inspections. The property includes an Arthur Hills-designed, 27-hole championship golf course along with tennis, fitness, dining, and other country club amenities.

The Challenge

Although the property has only two lakes, both are prominent features of the golf course.

Players see them throughout their rounds, making algae, shoreline grasses, and aquatic vegetation highly visible. At the same time, treatments must support healthy water conditions without detracting from the natural character of the course.

Routine inspections may monitor submerged plants such as Hydrilla or Southern Naiad, nuisance algae, and invasive shoreline vegetation before growth becomes more extensive.

Our Approach

Every monthly service begins with a complete inspection of both lakes.

Our maintenance program includes:

  • Monitoring and managing aquatic vegetation

  • Algae treatment when needed

  • Shoreline grass management

  • Evaluation of overall lake conditions

  • Identification of developing concerns

  • Recommendations based on seasonal conditions

Treatments are adjusted according to rainfall, temperature, irrigation runoff, and current vegetation growth rather than following an identical plan each month.

Why Golf Course Lakes Matter

Beautiful water features contribute to the quality of every round. Healthy lakes complement fairways and greens, create memorable views, and reinforce the high standards members expect from a private country club. Consistent maintenance also allows course staff to focus on playing conditions while knowing the lakes are receiving regular professional care.

After maintaining these lakes since 2001, our team understands how they respond to seasonal rainfall and recurring vegetation pressure.
